Efficacy
The active ingredient "tirzepatide" works simultaneously on two hormones, GLP-1 and GIP, supporting both blood glucose control and weight reduction.
Lowers blood glucose
By promoting insulin secretion and suppressing glucagon secretion, it prevents rapid blood glucose spikes. With stable glucose control, it is expected to suppress the conversion of excess sugar into fat.
Sustains satiety
By slowing gastric motility and acting on the brain to suppress appetite, it prevents overeating and enables comfortable control of meal intake.
Improves fat metabolism
By regulating the function of fat cells, it makes it easier for accumulated body fat to be used as energy, leading to efficient weight loss.
*In Japan, this drug is approved only as a treatment for type 2 diabetes.
Medical evidence
In a clinical trial of Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes (SURPASS J-mono trial), the following results were reported:
- HbA1c (blood glucose indicator) decreased by up to 2.8%
- Body weight decreased by up to 10.7 kg
(Inagaki et al., 2022)
This was superior to the conventional GLP-1 receptor agonist (dulaglutide), suggesting a "synergistic effect" from acting on both GLP-1 and GIP.
